Clock drift under VMware

The clock on the guest OS is either too fast or too slow.
Running NTP on the guest does not solve the problem.

Never run NTP on a guest OS.
Run NTP on the VMware server only.
On linux guests, add the following kernel argument in grub.conf:
"clocksource=pit"
For all vmx files on the VMware server, edit the following setting:
tools.synctime = "TRUE"
Finally, install vmware-tools and the guest clock will automatically sync with the VMware server.
