Oracle: Temporarily disabling archive logs

The database itself can be placed in NOARCHIVELOG mode, which disables the process of redo log archiving which can otherwise slow down a bulk load into a warehouse. How?

1. shutdown;
2. startup mount;
3. alter database noarchivelog;
4. alter database open;

To resume archive logging:
5. alter database archivelog;
